ICC Is A Registered Tax Exempt Non Profit Organization.
The Indian Community of Connecticut Inc. is now incorporated and registered with the state of CT and it has also been granted a Federal non-profit, charitable status.
Indian Community of Connecticut Inc. (ICC) has been recognized by the Federal Internal Revenue Service (IRS) as a tax exempt institution as described in Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our organization can now be recognized formally as a non-profit and donations are deductible to the extent allowed by the law under section 170 of the Code. ICC is qualified to receive tax deductible bequests, devises, transfers or gifts under section 2055, 2106 or 2522 of the Code. This is verified via a letter dated June 4, 2009 from the Department of the Treasury/IRS.
A copy of the aforementioned letter is available upon written request. This is a very important step in the development of ICC. It will help us both in our efforts to continue to build the organization and in our fund raising efforts from foundations and from individuals. Gifts (financial and in-kind) to the organization and contributions may be deducted from income tax up the amount allowed by law. The process for applying for 501(c)(3) status is a very arduous and tedious - we could not have done it without the support of our dues-paying members and donors.
